An online social experiment of shared respect.
The universe's smallest friendly alien.
Psy-Sci is an otherworldly creature with the curiousity of child, the heart of a bodhisattva, and the wisdom of a sage. The survivor alien project began as an expression of the artist's outsider self-reflection. It then evolved into a form of appreciation toward those who he shared experiences with. It then was utilized to become the assets for many games and projects as part of Psy-Sci's brand. This page will show the many forms the project has taken over the years since the creation of the first pixel alien in 2002.
I joined the artist community on soulseek and was asked to participate in their music compilation called the One Minute Massacre. As part of the compilation Numbr, the album cover artist asked particiapnts to create a pixel art image for their headshot on the tracklisting. Psy-Sci saw others attempts and decided to make his a version of ET that gave the middle finger instead of one that asks to phone home. It was a crude attempt of a joke in the birthplace of meme culture. Shortly after psy-sci would create an animated gif version to explicitly show the alien flipping off. His interest in gif animations and pixel art would keep the alien alive through many forms and evolutions.
Psy-Sci created an online portfolio to show his art, illustrations, and music. He used the alien persona throughout the site including emoticons for a chat widget that he developed for the site.

Psy-sci began to make different versions of the alien for his friends. He liked to use them in his forum signature to link them to their websites and personal projects. With the limited space allowed in the forum signature he decided to create a weird game that mimiced the reality show Survivor. Each week a new alien would be created and another would have to be voted off the forum signature. The unlucky castaway would be made into an animation. Some animated gifs and flash animations were created to tell the story of how they were voted off.
Psy-Sci used the myspace platform to promote his art and music. The community there was a great place to meet new people and after some of them saw how he made new versions of the alien they were interested in joining in. It was at this time psysci began to make full body versions of the alien and make gif animations of them as well.

The game evolved into an album of video game inspired music. The forum game and animations sparked inspiration that the alien adventures needed a soundtrack. During the trip for his live performance at Lab30 he created a song that he named the Theme song for Survivor Alien. He would then create a bunch of tracks that would appear on the full album. He then exclusively released the album on soulseek for free download.
After learning about pfp NFT projects in web3 psysci decided to create derivative artworks based on NFT art, he started by creating pixel versions of Broadside NFTs. He would then later create trading card game using the designs and move on to other collections such as AKCB.
Psy-Sci went from 2D to 3D when he entered the Nifty Island community. There he found a place to realize his vision of the Survivor Alien video game. He built an island on nifty island, added his Survivor Alien album into the game and constructed small mini-games. About 10 years before he storyboarded the concept for SLSK Isle which was a continuation of the animation he made for the forum game. It was meant to be a website that let users claim land and interact with eachother online. It never came to fruition until Nifty Island launched their play to earn metaverse.
