In 2008 I was asked to participate in a group art show to launch a series of Art shows at The Showroom NYC art gallery in the lower east side. The show was organized by Toy Tokyo and featured well known artists such as Mad Barbarians and Devil Robots.
Three acrylic paintings on canvas in pixel art style. Calico, Golden, and Pink versions of the iconic Maneki Neko.
I included 3 paintings in my signature pixel alien design. I had initially designed a maneki neko cat for a friend as I had learned about the story of the beckoning cat and my friend had been known for his love of felines. Creating versions of my pixel alien had become my way of including friends into my pixel universe. It began as a way to hyperlink friends projects in my signature on the soulseek forum. Your signature would only accept a certain amount of content, so I developed the idea of using images instead of text to be able to fit more links in there. I then made it into a sort of gameshow where I created an animation for anyone that I would take out of signature to make room for the newest friend.
