This is work from Matthew Timpanelli's work at The Daily. The Daily was a national publication of ~80 interactive pages built for the iPad, Android Tablet and Social Media. Matthew was a news producer there managing a team of 30+ designers and developers, while coordinating with Video and Editorial teams. In addition to his management role, he was also responsible for doing hands-on design and development work. Below is some of the design work Matthew was responsible for, including covers, layouts, and infographics.
Election Day Cover
Role: Designer
This cover was published mid-day as the polls opened. We often updated the publication as breaking news took place. In this instance we received a photo of Mitt Romney on his iPad from our photo team and decided it would make a great cover for the publication.
Oregon Legalization Animation
Role: Photo Retoucher
Matthew retouched the photo here before handing it off to another designer to build the animation for this interactive cover. The final product had smoke billowing from the "Space Needle" as embers were ignited.
Business Cover - Cyber Monday
Often a designer was needed to conceptualize a concept and run with it. Matthew also has the ability to tell a story with his designs.
Sports Cover - Super Bowl
Before taking on the entire publication as a producer, Matthew was first the producer for the Sports section. The great work the team put together earned him the responsibility of taking on the greater publication.
Apple Stock Layout
As a news producer you must choose a layout for each story based on the word count and imagery available. In this example I was responsible for choosing that layout, designing the infographic and building the pages.
